Djinn (singular Djinni), in Golden Sun, are elemental spirits of earth, water, wind, or fire - one element per Djinni. All Djinn are sentient and able to communicate, but they rarely choose to do so.

Djinn have three states: "Set", "Standby", and "Recovery". A Set Djinni can boost stats and change a character's class, and can be "unleashed" in battle to provide some effect. Unleashing a Djinni changes its status to Standby. A Djinni on Standby provides no direct bonuses, but may be used to summon powerful entities. It may also be re-Set, although doing this in battle can often be a waste of time. A Djinni that helps with summoning goes into Recovery, and then automatically becomes Set again after a period of time. Djinn may be freely switched between Set and Standby outside of battle with no effect.

The direct effects of Set Djinn are nearly as varied as the Djinn themselves. Some damage enemies or heal allies, some temporarily boost stats, some have a good chance of inflicting status effects... It all varies. For further information, as well as lists of all the canonical Djinn, see the wiki page

Different combinations of Set Djinn can change a character's class. This can give access to a wide variety of different spells, potentially of all the elements at once.
